HAVE I TOLD YOU TODAY THAT I LOVE YOU

In the past  I have intermittently posted excerpts from my book, Have I Told You Today That I Love You. (Reminder to self – no more titles with more than 3 or 4 words.) Today I will begin to post the entire book, one chapter at a time, over the next 1-2 months.

PREFACE

These words come from a place deep within me, born in times of anguish, frustration, joy and sorrow, and successes and failures, all seasoned with doses of anxiety, depression, and self doubt, ushering in a spiritual awakening that literally transformed my life.  I discovered my soul.

From these experiences I found direction and resources that enabled me to navigate a personal journey that at one time was unthinkable.

I am indebted to others who have so freely shared the experiences and lessons of their own personal journeys.  I hope that I can do the same for those that follow me.

REMEMBERING GOD

The story of life as we know it has been one of progression from simplicity to complexity, from seemingly basic biological behavior to an increasing state of consciousness.  This relentless march over an incomprehensible period of time has provided the human animal with the capacity to imagine the world beyond itself.  We posses the ability to think, to imagine, to wonder, to create, to dream, to aspire, to love, to grieve, and to remember.  These are some of the basic elements that define our humanity, and our interaction with the world.
(Although we are learning that other animals possess some of these same elements, none reach the level found in humans). Together they create the awesome “human spirit”.  And while it may lack physical objectivity, its reality cannot be denied.  We experience this spirit, in one form or another, every day of our lives.

For as long as we know, man has been in pursuit of answers, attempting to understand the world around him and his experiences in that world. One way to accomplish this was to believe in one or more supernatural powers (gods) to allay fears and explain the unknown.  Utilizing the ability to ponder and imagine, mankind has been able to conceive of these much needed deities.

If there is a supreme being (God) responsible for the world and beyond, then we are all the result of His creation, either by the Biblical version of creation, or by evolution.  He has made us what we are - complex creatures possessing the incredible human spirit, capable of love, hate, envy, indifference, and untold extremes of behavior.  Man can conceive of God because of the resources given him by God.  Imagine the first person to experience some spiritual or other-worldly event.  How would he know that it was from God?  Where would he even get the concept of such a Being, if not from his imagination?

God has given us the ability to create Him in our own image
